This introduction to Assembly programming focuses on the basics of making a GameBoy and GameBoy Color compatible game! We’ll start with learning hex and juggling register values, and then dive into GameBoy-specific features such as drawing to the screen, moving sprites, and reading pressed buttons. This class has a low head-count and can be tailed to fit the experience-level of those attending: beginners and experienced coders welcome alike. We’ll use a gameboy emulator to test and debug our code, but at the end we’ll also demo code developed in-class on a real GameBoy Color.
The code learned within this class is also generally applicable to other Z80-architecture devices, such as the TI-83 and TI-84 graphing calculators.
